Grow Your Own Cinema are holding a Training Day in the Sunart Centre, Strontian, on Tuesday 12th July, 10am-4.30pm. All interested individuals and groups are invited and encouraged to attend. You don't need any previous experience of screening films as full free training will be provided.

The Sunart Centre is particularly keen for members of the community interested in film to attend the event and to begin screening films in our theatre, where we have a new state of the art projector to go with our large screen and surround sound capabilities.

Also attending will be representatives from West Ardnamurchan Community Development, Glenuig Hall, Lochaber Cinema Group in Fort William and Sally Semple from Drimnin Cinema.  It is hoped several people from each area/venue/group will attend the training day. If you know anyone who may be interested please pass this on.

Grow Your Own Cinema is an exciting new project by Cinema For All and Voluntary Arts Scotland set up to encourage voluntary arts groups to put on their very own film events.

Perhaps your group meets regularly in a town hall or school that has the potential to double up as a screening venue? Do you have a cinema in your local area but would like more say in what films you'd like to see? Grow Your Own Cinema is here to help!

The Grow Your Own Cinema project will provide participating groups with the following:

  • Morvern Cunningham and Katherine Sellar (Cinema For All) will be providing the training and information on how the GYOC project can support groups to put on screenings, as well as covering topics such as Film Licensing, Technical Equipment and Event Marketing.
  • Sally Semple from Drimnin Cinema will also be in attendance to offer her insight into running screenings in the Ardnamurchan area.

Follow-up support and advice will be available from Cinema For All project officer and there is an option for funding to cover hire of equipment (if necessary) and film licence for your group’s initial screening.

Grow Your Own Cinema will provide lunches for everyone attending and are also able to offer a small bursary towards travel expenses per group.

Please let us know how many folk from your group can make it along and their names (it would be great to have as many as 5 folk or more from each group attending the session if possible).

For booking or more information contact Eoghan Carmichael at the Sunart Centre (01397 709228) or Morvern Cunningham at Cinema or All on 0131 561 7322.
