JOAN CLEVILLÉ DANCE:  PLAN B for Utopia

‘Plan B for Utopia is a beautifully constructed show: laugh out loud, serious, profoundly silly, and a joy from start to finish’ ★★★★ The Skinny

Plan B for Utopia is a playful dance theatre work by Dundee-based company Joan Clevillé Dance.

Charismatic performers Solène Weinachter (Scottish Dance Theatre, Gecko) and John Kendall (balletLORENT) explore the notion of utopia and the role that imagination and creativity can play as a driving force for change in our personal and collective lives.

Plan B for Utopia is a show about how we choose to live our lives: about having a dream, giving it up and trying again, but above all, it’s a story about friendship. Mixing dance, theatre and storytelling with a good dose of humour, the performance features classic songs like ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’, ‘When you Wish Upon a Star’ and ‘What a Wonderful World'. The work is a fresh and original combination of dance, theatre and storytelling, featuring two versatile and charismatic performers. Breaking the fourth wall (and with a good dose of humour), the work creates an intimate space for play and reflection where audience and performers can ‘meet’ in a common endeavour to re-imagine the world.

The performance is accessible to a wide range of audiences and particularly suitable for young adults. Featuring music by Judy Garland, John Lennon and Louis Armstrong among others, the soundtrack of the work shows how the idea of utopia is embedded in our everyday lives and popular culture.

Joan Clevillé Dance is an independent dance company based in Scotland, creating work that challenges the conventional boundaries between dance and theatre and is rooted in the fascination for human nature and the world we live in.
