Newsletter September 2018

The last few weeks have been busy in the Sunart Centre with all our summer activities etc. We have also been recruiting new staff and are delighted to welcome three new Centre Supervisors to the team – Fiona Galbraith, Hollie Taylor and Pat Adams. Supervisors will be here most afternoons and evenings managing access to the building, assisting users of the facilities and running events and activities, and we look forward to a new and bust autumn schedule.

Our new Otago Falls Prevention Classes with Maria MacDonald are going well. The Otago Exercise programme was designed by the University of Otago Medical School, New Zealand, specifically to prevent falls in older people. It consists of a set of leg muscle strengthening and balance retraining exercises progressing in difficulty, and a walking plan. The exercises are done mainly in your own home, but we provide weekly classes to teach you the exercises, and provide support as you follow the programme. Classes cost £3.00 and include a cup of tea or coffee and a chat, and are run every Thursday afternoon until October at least: in Lochaline Hall 12:00pm – 1:00pm, and in the Sunart Centre 2:00pm - 3:00pm.

September will be a busy month with the Three Lochs Book & Arts Festival on 21st and 22nd September – there will be plenty of information on that elsewhere in this issue of DtD?.

Our September Film on Friday 28th September is DEATH OF STALIN, which follows the Soviet dictator's last days and depicts the chaos of the regime after his death. A political satire comedy directed and co-written by Armando Iannucci. It stars Steve Buscemi, Simon Russell Beale, Paddy Considine, Rupert Friend, Jason Isaacs, Michael Palin, Andrea Riseborough and Jeffrey Tambo. Highly recommended. Certificate PG, run time 113 minutes, start time 7:30pm, tickets £5 (under 18s £3) at the door
